From the moment you step inside, the cozy, old-world charm whispers of tradition and culinary heritage, complemented by the delightful Italian market that welcomes you at the entrance.

One of the standout features of Filippi's is its commitment to quality. As echoed in multiple customer reviews, the pizza is a highlight here. The Pepperoni & Sausage pizza comes generously topped with rich slices of pepperoni and savory sausage, all layered atop a perfectly crispy crust. Others rave about the Works Pappa's Favorite, laden with cheese, sausage, and mushrooms, creating a symphony of flavors that speaks to the heart of Italian cuisine.

The vibrant Antipasto Salad offers a refreshing start, featuring a mix of olives, ham, salami, and peppers that brightens any meal. Customers have also praised the lasagna, particularly Mamma's recipe, which showcases the essence of traditional Italian comfort food. One visitor emphasized their affinity for the Italian sausage, noting its exquisite fennel flavor, a true testament to the thoughtfulness in ingredient selection. And, let’s not forget the cannoli—a sweet, creamy finish to an already impressive meal.

While the pizza and pastas are certainly the stars of the menu, Filippi's proves that there’s more to enjoy, with options like the hidden gem, Lobster Ravioli, drawing interest for its decadent preparation. The extensive wine list, including delightful carafes of Chianti, pairs beautifully with the rich dishes, adding another layer to the already immersive dining experience.

Service at Filippi's stands out as well, with friendly and efficient staff making each visit a pleasure. Guests often find themselves seated promptly, even during peak hours, which speaks to the establishment's commitment to customer satisfaction.

Though prices may be slightly higher than casual pizza-by-the-slice spots, the generosity of the portions and the authentic flavors make it worth every penny. This is my absolute favorite Italian restaurant in the entire world - when we visit San Diego, we MUST stop at a Filippi’s. Their food is phenomenal and this location even has a deli at the entrance where you can buy meat, cheese, and desert. We typically start with their antipasto, which has the best cheese and meat in it ever. Their pizza is extra cheesy, with the toppings underneath so they don’t fall off. Their pasta is amazing as well, and I’d recommend the ravioli and the spaghetti with meat sauce. My favorite menu item is their Italian sausage - it’s got an amazing flavor and it’s FULL of fennel if you like that. Cannolis are always a must. Parking is available for customers in their lot, but be aware that if you have an extra large car (like a truck) you may be asked to park at a different location.

I recently visited Filippi’s Pizza Grotto in Little Italy, San Diego, and it was a delightful experience. The restaurant has a cozy, old-school Italian vibe, complete with a charming market at the entrance. The pizza was delicious, with a perfectly crispy crust, generous toppings, and rich, flavorful sauce. Portions were hearty and satisfying. Service was friendly and efficient despite the busy atmosphere. It’s a great spot for classic Italian comfort food in a warm, welcoming setting. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Little Italy!

One of our favorite spots in Little Italy! Menu includes a variety of choices with sandwiches and pastas and salads, but it’s called a pizza grotto for a reason. The pizza is about 13 inches, 6 slices, thicker crust, and can feed about 2-3 people. Lobster ravioli is also outstanding and hidden from the menu. The carafe of Chianti wine is divine but is more wine than you think! A half carafe could be a good amount for 3-4 people. Our waitresses are always so friendly and helpful. Other restaurants require reservations or have a line out the door, especially on a Friday night, but we are seated right away every time which is nice. It’s spendier than the pizza-by-the-slice places around the corner, but it’s so worth it for an authentic Italian meal in a stunning atmosphere! Updated visit: ordered the Chicken Parmigiana sandwich and it was delicious. Also tried the Shrimp Filippi which was full of garlicky buttery herby flavor. There was a line on the Sunday evening we visited but it was only a 20 minute wait.

I had my eye on this place as a destination and was so glad we were able to get here. We arrived after 8:30pm and they were nice enough to still seat a party of 7. Immediately appreciated. I wasn't looking forward to random junk food as emergency light night fare. My wife loved her lasagna with meatball and sausage. She found the sausage to be particularly zesty and I have only heard her speak of one other sausage in such glowing terms. I had the sausage and pepperoni pizza because I could not pass on the pizza. The cheese was great and the ingredients in general seemed very fresh. The crust is a perfect instrument for scooping up any excess marinara. I will be back.

Outstanding pizza restaurant and grocery store right in the heart of little Italy in San Diego! We ordered the Margarita pizza which was a 13 inch pizza that we easily good for 2 people. Just for fun, we added a couple of more toppings. The staff were more than happy to accommodate us on that request. It was also easy to get outdoor seating and to enjoy the amazing street ambiance outside on such a pleasant day. Another great restaurant in San Diego. I am so glad the hotel I was staying at recommended this place.

It was the best Italian dining so far ... the pasta and ingredient was fresh. We ordered ravioli, chicken alfredo, seafood linguni and pizza margherita, all were succeded. You may also find Italian delicacies and groceries there.

Ended up at Filippi’s after a recommendation to give them a try for some authentic Italian food. Thankfully we took the advice and gave it a try. Also, I have to say as much as I thought the Gaslamp Quarter was nice I really have to say if you can venture outside of that area a bit and visit Little Italy. It was maybe a 5-10 min walk and not only is the food better but it’s also much more reasonable from a cost standpoint. While at Filippi’s we tried their pizza which is what they are known for as well as a side of lasagna. We definitely ordered way too much but we wanted to try a couple of options. The pizza was top notch. We couldn’t decide on toppings so they accommodated a half magherita and half special, thin crust. The topics were great and the crust was thin, crispy, and cooked perfectly. It was an amazing pizza with fresh ingredients and homemade meatballs. Also the lasagna was nice as well but I would have been more than happy with just the pizza. For seating they offer indoor as well as outside seating. We chose outside due to the close proximity to the Little Italy sign, great photo-op. We walked but for those driving there is a small parking lot next to the restaurant for Filippi’s customers.
